Bio
Greg Pierce writes plays and fiction. He has received fellowships from the Edward F. Albee Foundation, The Djerassi Institute, and the New York Public Library. His stories have appeared in magazines such as Confrontation, Electric Literature, Avery, Berkeley Fiction Review, and Conjunctions.com. He has attended the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. His stage adaptation of Haruki Murakami's novel The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (co-written with director Stephen Earnhart) premiered at The Ohio Theatre in NYC, and will be produced by the Baryshnikov Arts Center in March 2011 as part of Carnegie Hall's JapanNYC festival. His play Smack the Wagon, was featured at the Great Plains Theatre Conference and then produced at Out North in Anchorage. Other plays include Kick Stop, Slowgirl, and The Suburbanoids. For years, he wrote and performed with a theater group called The Bad Astronauts. His verses to accompany Camille Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals (written with Brian Hargrove) were performed at the Hollywood Bowl with the L.A. Philharmonic. He is currently collaborating with composer John Kander on Andra, three one-act musicals based on original stories. He likes Czech food — especially the dumplings. He has a B.A. from Oberlin College and is working on his M.F.A. in fiction from Warren Wilson College. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild. He lives in New York City.
